FAQ
Your Questions Answered
How does it work?
Dermal filler, in general, is injected into the skin to replace what was once there. As we age there are changes in the bone structure and shape; muscles become less toned, fat is lost and changes position in the face along with skin that becomes looser and duller.
What you see is the problem area.
We see a comprehensive view of multiple factors that contribute to the problem. Often a problem site is caused by loss of volume or ageing in a different site and what we often realise is, to get the best result we need to combine the treatment with another area. We recommend a face mapping consultation to every client, to have a comprehensive understanding of how your face is ageing.
How long does the treatment last?
It depends on the type of filler used, some fillers can last approximately 12 months, whilst others can last up to 24 months. Longevity of filler can be affected by a number of factors such as metabolism.
For whom is it not suitable?
People who are pregnant or breastfeeding are not suitable for filler treatment.
A full medical history and assessment is carried out for every patient to ensure suitability for treatment.
Can it be combined with other treatments?
Depending on the area treated it is commonly combined with toxin treatment which weakens the muscles, so the skin isn’t constantly stressed with the movement. Areas treated with toxin aid wrinkle prevention.
Skin treatments – are usually indicated because although the structure of the skin looks plumper and smoother, the actual skin health itself is no different. To improve the skin health the skin cells need to be stimulated – we can do that with prescription home care.
Is it sore?
A topical anaesthetic cream can be used which is very effective.
What is it used to treat?
Folds, wrinkles, depressions, scars, loss of volume. Lips and under eye tear troughs are also treated using dermal filler.
What is the recovery time?
- Redness typically resolves the same day.
- Swelling usually subsides within a few days.
- Bruising depending on severity can be for up to a week although after 24 hours you can apply makeup to cover the area.
